BRIGG RAIL GROUP ENJOYS NEW EXPERIENCE

Brigg Blog likes to report success stories and also events that people enjoy.
So today we are happy to post details of something which combines the two categories in one.
The Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society has already sold out ALL 10 Saturday steam-hauled train trips around the large steelworks complex off Brigg Road, Scunthorpe, between now and late October, having done likewise for five held in May and June.  View details here...

Last Saturday (July 9) it offered something different - giving people the chance to learn how to drive a now-preserved diesel railcar.
The Independent Brigg Line Rail Group (IBLRG) signed up for the 'driver experience' involving former Northern Rail 'railbus' No 144017 "around areas that are not open to the public" on the works which has many miles of track.
The IBLRG tells Brigg Blog this proved to be "a totally wonderful experience" and one that comes highly recommended.
The destination board on the front of the train was changed to Cleethorpes to mark the occasion.
Until a few years ago the Pacers, as they are known, were a common sight on our Brigg Line's Saturdays-only passenger train service (currently suspended until December 2022).
For many years, places on the special train trips around the steelworks were booked in Brigg through the Tourist Information Centre in the Buttercross.
What is now the Business & Tourism Centre still stocks informative printed leaflets about these items, but place-booking is now undertaken online.
