BROUGHTON IN VERY HIGH-SCORING GAME

Broughton cricketers were involved in a match which produced the very high aggregate total of 499 runs yesterday (Sunday, July 10).
On a very hot afternoon at Heslam Park in Scunthorpe, Broughton 3rds chased the ball to all parts of the ground as hosts Scunthorpe Town 4ths piled up 280 for the loss of only three wickets in the permitted 40 overs.
However, there was no question of Broughton wilting under the onslaught and they replied with a very respectable 219 for nine.
Broughton shared bowling duties among eight members of the team with Matthew Oades, Ben Fish and Oliver Hayward taking a wicket apiece.
Jack Johnstone later scored 76, Scott Pashley 38 and Nick Crawford 37.
Following this game in Mick Walker North Lindsey League Division Two, Broughton 3rds remain at the foot of the table.
Hibaldstow 2nds, who were not in league action yesterday, are a place above them after five fixtures.
At sunny Cleethorpes yesterday, Lincolnshire also had to toil in the field on the opening day of their county championship match against Staffordshire.
The visitors posted 326 for eight before declaring in the 89th over, with Lincs making 61 for two (from 18) by close of play.
This two innings match resumes at 11am this morning (Monday) and will continue tomorrow.
