HISTORIC SPORTS FIXTURE TO BE PLAYED IN BRIGG THIS WEEK

One of the most long-established sports fixtures in Brigg is coming up later this week.
School XI v Old Boys cricket matches were first established at Brigg Grammar in the late 1920s and continued after Sir John Nelthorpe School was introduced in 1976.
For many years they were staged during Cricket Week at the start of the Grammar School's summer holiday in July.
During the early SJN period, they switched to Father's Day and were played on Sunday afternoons.
However, the expansion of league cricket on Sundays saw evening games taking over.
Now termed Youth v Experience, the 2022 friendly will be played on Friday, July 8 on the school field, from 6pm.
Traditionally, the senior cricketers hold an after-match social get-together on licensed premises in Brigg - usually Wetherspoon's White Horse as this is nearest to the school's sports field.
Over the weekend Nick Beacock, the Brigg Town all-rounder, kindly updated us with the details and will be skippering the Old Boys. Teacher Jon Taylor has also kindly kept us up to date.
A ladies' rounders match involving former local pupils is scheduled at Brigg Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road, tomorrow (Tuesday, July 5) from 6.30pm.
Helen Cresswell is the contact for this fixture.
Both games will feature members of the Briggensians' Association which represents former pupils and staff of Sir John Nelthorpe, Brigg Grammar and Brigg Girls' High.
Golf and football reunion matches are also held at various times of the year - the Briggensians having a long-established golfing section.

Fingers crossed for similar conditions to prevail this Friday!
