BRIGG & DISTRICT ROUND-UP: SPORTS & GAMES, NEW STORE, RECYCLING & CONVENIENCES

Planning permission has been granted in Brigg to erect a detached garage & games room (with storage space above) and to construct a car port to the side of the dwelling at 12 Wrawby Road, on the edge of the conservation area.
An existing vehicular access will be used to the rear of the property which is "served off" Glanford Road, a North Lincolnshire Council officer's report explained.
The report considered this proposal "will not result in any adverse implications in terms of residential amenity."
Brigg Town Council was consulted as part of the planning process and raised no objections.

Approval is being sought for conversion from offices to a care facility at Castlethorpe Court in Castlethorpe hamlet (Broughton parish). North Lincolnshire Council will decide this planning application in due course.

NLC has now replied to Brigg Blog's inquiry about why the public toilets it operates in Barnetby were closed for a spell recently, meaning the conveniences were unavailable to villagers and passengers from the nearby railway station which is without its own WCs.
The authority now tells us the toilets were closed as a temporary measure while the regular cleaner was on leave and a replacement could not be found.
"The regular cleaner has now returned, cover is planned going forward, and the toilets are open as usual," a council spokesperson explained.
The conveniences are pictured here while they were closed temporarily.

During the heatwave, Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg, re-scheduled its annual sports presentation evening to September (date to be announced). A race from the recent sports day held on the school field is pictured here.

The new Co-operative store being built in Barnetby - pictured above recently - is expected to open in August.
A spokesperson for the Lincolnshire Co-op told Brigg Blog that "an exact day will be confirmed closer to the time." (Roadside signs currently indicate 'Opening Summer 2022').
Through social media, some local people have informed the Co-op that they would like to see future stores built in Wrawby and Worlaby.

And finally... an update following previous posts about recycling metal cans on the edge of the Old Courts car park in Brigg.
It was good to discover the top of one of the two large bins at the Recycling Centre had been left unlocked last Saturday (July 16) but it was full to the point of overflowing.
That's very welcome in terms of Brigg's overall recycling rate, but does someone need to consider how frequently the emptying is carried out?
Sometimes the lids of both bins are locked, which means feeding cans in two by two, rather than tipping in a full bag.
