LOCKDOWN RETURNS IN BRIGG

Brigg Blog hopes there hasn't been a change to local recycling arrangements.
Judging by observations over several years, many people who have filled their small green household recycling boxes like to make mass deposits of metal cans and tins at the recycling centre on the edge of the Old Courts Road car park.
It has long been the policy that the top of one of the big bins provided at the centre is kept unlocked so depositers can lift the lid and tip in their contributions in one go.
However, our latest visit found the tops of both bins locked.
We could have left our bag of cans on top of the bin, but instead fed them into the slots, one or two at a time (see picture above) until all FIFTY were safely inside.
This took some time but we felt it was the right thing to do.
However, on our way home we passed one of the new 50/50 litter/recycling bins close to the zebras crossing near the old Post Office (see picture top right).
Someone had left a carrier bag filled with metal cans beside the bin. Another bag was also nearby (contents unknown).
We hope the recently observed return to lockdown on Old Courts Road proves to be a one off, and that normal (open) service resumes.
For recycling needs to be made as quick and easy as possible to point people in the right direction.
It would be unfortunate if some metal cans and tins finished up in general waste wheelie bins and went to landfill sites instead of being recycled.
