Brigg Town Cricket Club's home game against Broughton 2nds followed the form book yesterday (Saturday, July 9).
Lincolnshire County League Division Three West leaders Broughton won by four wickets against a Brigg team which remains at the foot of the table.
Town opted to bat first in the heat at the Recreation Ground and this appeared to be the correct decision as a handy 40-run opening stand followed between Jack Richards and Guy Haxby.
However, Jack's departure for 21 and Guy's for 15 was followed by a steady fall of wickets.
Vijay Raju, batting at seven, struck a hard-hit 21 which included a huge straight six deep into one of Wrawby Road's back gardens.
However, no one else managed double figures as Brigg had to be content with 94 all-out- failing to use up 14 of their permitted 45 overs.
All the Broughton bowlers employed proved effective.
Matthew Oades, who came on first change, finished with four for 14, and there were two wickets apiece for Ben Fish and Robbie Glentworth, plus one for Brett Fish.
Opener Jack Johnstone failed to take a wicket but conceded only 19 runs from nine tidy overs.
With a fast outfield helping speed good shots to the boundary, Brigg's total fell well below what was expected.
Following the tea provided by Pip's Kitchen at nearby Brigg Town Football Club, the home side took to the field in need of early wickets.
Both Broughton openers were soon dismissed before Nick Crawford (10) and Jamie Robinson (23) got things moving,
Brigg then claimed a fifth wicket and were still in with a chance.
But a telling partnership followed between the experienced Steve Johnstone (who scored 28) and young all-rounder Oades (14 not out).
Broughton secured victory, and the maximum 20 points on offer, in the 23rd over.
Brigg had to be content with two bowling bonus points - resulting from the efforts of Raju (three for 25), Nick Beacock (two for 32) and Richards (one for 11).
Mid-table Broughton 1st XI visited lowly Louth 2nds and won well by 87 runs in Division One.
Richard Stone found conditions at the London Road Ground very much to his liking, scoring 115 in Broughton's impressive 265 for six, while Nick Dobbs hit 48 and Richard Green 45.
Louth were then bowled out fof 178 - Broughton opening bowlers Robbie Ward and Jake Parker taking four for 24 and three for 22 respectively.
In Division Two, Hibaldstow suffered a five-wicket defeat in Lincoln against Lindum 3rds.
The villagers' batting efforts fell away after the early efforts of Nathan Stewart (64) and Josh Robinson (41).
They were the only players to make double figures in an all-out 155.
Hibaldstow opener Hamza Shahid then took three for 36 in his permitted nine overs, but the city side won comfortably.
