TAKE A LEAF OUT OF BRIGG BLOG'S BOOK

Temperatures in Brigg exceeded 70F (21C) on Saturday, October 13, 2018 - so-called Indian summer conditions following one of the hottest June to September periods for many years.
But there's no fooling Mother Nature when it comes to the onset of autumn.
Indeed, we suggest that the tall trees at East Park - on the edge of Brigg town centre - have lost more leaves that usual by mid-October.
Perhaps this relates to the lack of water for much of the summer.
Strong winds at the weekend spread the leaf-fall far and wide, including the stretch seen here along Wrawby Street between the Britannia Inn and the China Garden takeaway (see picture above).
Coupled with the heavy rain  on Sunday and showers yesterday (Monday) this has created potentially slippery conditions on some paths. So mind how you go!
Most autumns we get calls from some townsfolk for the council to sweep up the leaves, but it's a  time-consuming task.
Surely those of us who admire Brigg's attractive, tree-lined streets during spring and summer have to accept the downside in autumn when the year's growth is shed.

Returning to last Saturday night, many people without coats or jackets could be seen walking from pub to pub  and standing and sitting outside the hostelries.
You don't see this very often in mid-October.
Surprisingly, the warm weather did not attract a bumper turnout; most pubs we visited were not particularly busy.
