BRIGG REC FLOODLIT FACILITIES TODAY A FAR CRY FROM DARK DAYS OF THE PAST

Brigg Blog was very pleased to see all-weather sporting facilities in use at the Recreation Ground after dark on a somewhat chilly Wednesday October evening.
We walked by the refurbished Rec on our way to Brigg Town Football Club's Hawthorns clubhouse and saw many young people enjoying hockey training and tennis practice.
The 'Blue Astro' pitch and the hard-surface tennis courts are floodlit - a far cry from years past when weekend hockey start times (on grass pitches) had to be brought forward in stages from 3pm as autumn and then winter took hold. Otherwise we'd have been playing in the dark!
The same applied to Saturday and Sunday afternoon football.
North Lincolnshire Council has provided wonderful facilities at Brigg Rec, including a changing room block with showers and other amenities.
It's come  too late for most of us who, in the late 1980s, first called on Glanford Borough Council for an all-weather floodlit pitch to be provided within the town.

But today's sporting youngsters - and adults - are clearly making the most of what's now on offer.
