BRIGG BLOG MOURNS THE LOSS OF SPORTING OFFICIAL
Brigg Blog was very sorry to learn of the death of Mick Walker - very well-known as a cricket umpire who officiated in many matches involving our local Brigg Town, Broughton and Hibaldstow clubs.
We stood in league and cup matches together on a number of occasions while on the Scunthorpe & District panel.
He was fixture secretary of the local association for many years and was honoured by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) with a trip to the world-famous Lord's ground in London, having won a coveted national award for services to cricket, known as an OSCA.
Mick, 77, also represented the local umpires at many league meetings (see picture above of him deep in thought).
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22 at Woodlands Crematorium, Brumby Wood Lane, Scunthorpe, at 10am.
Afterwards there will be a get-together at Heslam Park Club, off Ashby Road, for those who knew Mick.
