BRIGG FLOOD ALERT IN FORCE - STORY UPDATED

A flood alert warning for the River Ancholme in Brigg - issued by the Environment Agency - was in force earlier today (Saturday, January 16).
"Flooding is possible - be prepared," was the advice from the agency, which said it wouldl be monitoring the level of the river - expected to remain high throughout the next few days.
"Our forecasts indicate that flooding to properties is not likely and therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued," the agency added.
However, it asked people to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.
If the flood risk changes, a further update will be given by the agency today.
The alert covered the river in Brigg and to the north and south of the town, as far as South Ferriby and beyond Brandy Wharf.

UPDATE 10am SATURDAY: The Environment Agency has now removed the alerts in place on the Lower & Upper River Ancholme, saying the risk of flooding has now reduced to "below levels of concern." No further flooding of fields and roads is expected.
