Brigg Town Football Club's home game with North Ferriby was cancelled yesterday (January 2) following a Coronavirus emergency decision taken by the Toolstation Northern Counties East League in the light of more stringent 'tier' restrictions being imposed by the government last week.
Yesterday produced a New Year update from the Scunthorpe & District (Saturday) Football League, to which Brigg-based Briggensians and Barnetby United (two teams) belong.
Officials from the local competition said: "Due to the Government placing Lincolnshire into Tier 4, it has been decided that all EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League fixtures for Saturday 9th January 2021 & Saturday 16th January 2021 will be cancelled. I hope that you will appreciate that this decision has not been taken lightly but we feel we must keep everyone's health and safety at the forefront of our decisions.
"With this in mind a meeting with all clubs and committee will be held by zoom within the next two weeks."
Four weeks ago the Scunthorpe & District League announced the cancellation of all its fixtures with immediate effect until January 9, 2021 "at the earliest."
