SIZEABLE SITE FOR NEW BRIGG HOUSING SEEKING APPROVAL

A sizeable site earmarked to provide new housing in Brigg has been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council.
Outline planning permission is being sought for residential development - the location being described as Car Sales and Storage Area, Engine Street, which is not far from the town centre.
The application has been made by a limited company through an agent/chartered surveyor based in the Isle of Axholme.
The 1.18-hectare (approximately 3-acre) site is close to James Street and Barnard Street. The existing use is sales and storage "plus waste land."
The site is considered to be within a flood risk area but an "attenuation" pond (collecting surface water) is outlined.
A statement accompanying the application says that a private drive serving the development "has been looked at by Highways and found to be acceptable."
The statement also suggests the development's benefits "would be to provide much needed housing in the North Lincolnshire Area."
Some of the land forming the site was occupied long ago by the Victoria Iron Works.
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering this application, with February 4 the end date for its public consultation period. Brigg Town Council will be consulted as part of the process.
If a local authority grants outline permission for residential development, a subsequent application detailing the type and number of properties generally follows for the council to consider.
For the benefit of those who may be unfamiliar with Engine Street's location, it is close to the A18 (Bridge Street).
