BRIGG MARKET FAILS TO TAKE PLACE BUT NOT BECAUSE OF SNOW LIKE THIS

Saturday's Brigg Market failed to take place yesterday (January 2, 2021). The absence of the usual stalls set out in the Market Place for North Lincolnshire Council prompted some people to question the reason.
Brigg Blog understands this was a decision made by the traders.
A few light snow showers yesterday morning also proved a talking point within the town centre. The chilly conditions would not have been particularly welcoming for shoppers visiting the stalls, even if the market had proceeded.
Over the years, Brigg's market has continued to be held in some very wintry weather (examples pictured above from our archive).
The last time we recall a cancellation because of snow was caused by the so-called Beast from the East, on March 1, 2018 which came out way from Russia and Scandinavia.
North Lincolnshire Council said at the time: "We're sorry for this inconvenience. Traders have been informed."
Brigg Blog commented that, due to arctic weather and snow, few shoppers would be surprised.
The market was also snowed off on December 2, 2010 when heavy snow carpeted the Market Place for several days (see pictures below).
Last Thursday's market went ahead on December 31, and the next is to be held on Thursday (January 7).
