STORM CHRISTOPH BAD WEATHER WARNING INCLUDES BRIGG

The Met Office currently has an amber-graded bad weather warning alert in force for the Brigg area, North Lincolnshire and West Lindsey. This is associated with Storm Christoph.
The rain-related alert will remain in place from 6am today (Tuesday, January 19) until 12.00 on Thursday.
Heavy rainfall is forecast for a wide area of eastern and northern England. Read the full details here...

ITV News Calendar said: "Most of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is covered by an amber weather warning this morning, which stretches from Brigg to all the way to Spalding."

The AA (Automobile Association) has sent Brigg Blog some advice of relevance to drivers taking to the roads in heavy rain...

  • Turn your headlights on – the Highway Code says you must use them when visibility is seriously reduced (less than 100m). Use fog lights if you like, but switch them off when visibility improves.
  • Leave twice as much space between you and the car in front – it takes longer to stop in the wet.
  • If your steering feels light due to aquaplaning, ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually.
  • If you break down don't prop the bonnet open while you wait. Rain-soaked electrics can make it harder to start the engine.
  • Try to avoid standing water on roads if you can.
  • Don't drive into flood water that’s moving or more than 10cm (4 inches) deep.Let approaching cars pass first.

In case of trouble, the AA can be contacted by calling 0800 88 77 66.
