GUY MARTIN'S LANCASTER BOMBER ON CHANNEL 4 PRESENTED BY MAN FROM THE BRIGG AREA

Guy Martin who lives in the Brigg area presented another fine prime-time programme on Channel 4 last night (Sunday, December 19).
Guy Martin's Lancaster Bomber saw the former motor-cycle race ace being taught how to taxi a surviving Second World War 'Lanc' on a runway at East Kirkby's Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, and learn about the roles of other bomber crew members, including the gunners. He enjoyed firing off a few rounds!
Brigg-educated at the Vale of Ancholme, Guy, who is a qualified mechanic, also chatted with Lincolnshire-born Squadron Leader Johnny Johnson - the last surviving member of crews from RAF Scampton who undertook the daring, low-level Dambusters raid deep in Germany during 1943. This raid was famously led by Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC.
Lincolnshire was known as Bomber County in the Second World War due to the high number of RAF bases it had, including Elsham and Kirmington, the latter subsequently being converted to become Humberside Airport.
Yesterday's programme came hot on the heels of a four-part series for Channel 4 called Guy's Garage in which 'our' Guy transformed a variety of very unlikely vehicles, including an East German Trabant family car, into racing machines and then tried them out competitively on different tracks at home and abroad. The final programme was screened last Monday. He bought an old Volvo in Brigg.
