A Broughton pub can be converted into a residential dwelling, North Lincolnshire Council has decided.
The authority has granted an application seeking planning permission to transform the Dog & Rat at 128 High Street by changing the use of the sizeable property which was erected in the late 1950s.
A delegated assessment report prepared by council planning staff said the Dog & Rat had closed as a public house, with function room, in 2018.
Information was provided to the council indicating an absence of inquiries about reopening the premises as a pub.
It was also pointed there are three other licensed premises within the town, plus the Hilton Double Tree Hotel (formerly Forest Pines). They, and the Village Hall, can all cater for functions.
No objections to the Dog & Rat proposal were received by planners. Broughton Town Council was consulted as part of the planning process.
The North Lincolnshire Council report on this application concluded: "The proposal to change the use of the building from public house to residential dwelling is considered acceptable."
The Dog & Rat (pictured here following its closure as a pub) is located near Broughton's Co-op store.
North Lincolnshire Council has still to decide another application seeking permission to change the use of Broughton's Red Lion pub at 45 High Street to a convenience store, and erect a front extension. This hostelry continues to trade.
The application has been 'not yet determined' since its public consultation period ended in early May 2021.
