Sixteen new domestic garages to rent are planned in Brigg to meet the local demand from motorists for secure premises.
Approval is now being sought from North Lincolnshire Council to erect the garages on land to the rear of 38-41 Albert Street.
Well-known local company G.W. Rowbottom & Sons Limited is the applicant.
A statement submitted to local authority planners says this company owns "a reasonable area surrounding the proposed site" and also the garden areas over which the garages are to be constructed.
The statement says tenants were formally advised about the proposed change some months ago to give them sufficient notice that their gardens are to be reduced in size.
"The applicant has constantly received enquiries for garages from local residents and has decided that there is a healthy demand for a secure garage, hence the planning application proposal," the statement adds.
The new garages will be "for rent" as an extension of an existing facility.
They are planned on land previously let as two garden areas.
Brigg Town Council is being consulted as part of the planning process, with North Lincolnshire Council making its decision at a future date, probably next year.
This application's public consultation period ends on December 29, 2021.
