The New Year is likely to see another serviceman's name added to the Roll of Honour on the Monument war memorial in Brigg.
Brigg Town Council recently agreed a request to add Flt Sgt Stanley Cross to one of the plaques.
There is a space available in a section which includes other RAF personnel (see picture above).
Stanley Cross was born in the town in 1906, educated in Brigg and enlisted as 'a regular' in the RAF in 1927.
He was killed in action during the Second World War on April 14, 1941, aged 35, while flying a Coastal Command, twin-engined Bristol Beaufighter over the Norwegian Sea. He is recorded as having no known grave.
Brigg man Ken Harrison supplied detailed information to Brigg Town Council which oversees the war memorial.
This followed historic research undertaken by local historian Josie Webb.
During the council's late October meeting, Coun Rob Waltham reminded his colleagues they were policy makers responsible for updating the records, and added: "The evidence is pretty compelling that Mr Harrison has presented."
Coun Waltham then successfully proposed updating the memorial "as soon as we can."
This is now expected to be completed early in 2022.
