TEMPERATURE TOPS 100F IN BRIGG AREA AS OUR INDOOR PICTURE SHOWS

The temperature topped 100F (37.7C) in Brigg yesterday (Saturday, July 18).
The Independent Brigg Line Rail Group has kindly forwarded this interesting picture of a thermometer showing the unusually high three-figure reading which was taken (indoors) by Samantha, a railway employee who works in the town's signalbox near the Bigby Road crossing. It shows the mercury rising to 103F (almost 40C).
Outdoors, temperatures rose into the high 80s locally, and perhaps climbed a little higher for a time.
We are keen to hear from people with outdoor thermometers who monitored yesterday's temperatures.
Pity the Brigg and Outcasts cricketers who fielded, batted and bowled throughout yesterday afternoon and into the early evening during their lengthy Lincolnshire League game at the town's Recreation Ground, from 1.30pm. Match report to follow on Brigg Blog.
Most pub customers opted for shady spots in beer gardens rather than staying inside premises.
But there was little respite from the heat, even as closing time drew near.
As we commented to someone on Wrawby Street about 7.45pm last night: "It's like being on a summer holiday in Marmaris, Turkey."
This is a popular seaside resort visited by many Brigg people over the years - some taking flights from Humberside Airport, Kirmington.
We should stress that official temperatures are always measured OUTDOORS not inside.

Brigg Primary School, on Glebe Road, used to have a white-painted wooden monitoring 'screen' where daily readings were taken in the 1960s and perhaps later than that.
It's rare for temperatures in Brigg to top 90F (outdoors) but it happened on Thursday, July 25, 2019 - during an intense heatwave.
Brigg Blog later reported: "The online weather service we use via a mobile phone clocked 33F (91.4C) yesterday afternoon when we couldn't resist popping into the Britannia Inn beer garden for a refreshing pint to break our walk home from the town centre after a spot of shopping. High humidity made conditions even more sticky."
