HEAVY FREIGHT TRAINS BEING DIVERTED THROUGH BRIGG THIS WEEKEND

Brigg people who hear rumbling in the distance today (Sunday, July 18) can rest assured it's the noise of heavy freight trains rather than thunder!
Our railway line - normally without trains on Sundays - is being used as a diversion because of engineering works on the main Doncaster-Scunthorpe-Barnetby route.
Eight biomass and Scunthorpe steel-related freight trains are due through Brigg at intervals between early morning and tea-time today - five of them running this afternoon. They will all be passing through Wrawby Junction.
Some will be biomass trains (full and empty) which operate between Immingham and Drax power station in Yorkshire.
Some diverted freights also used our local line yesterday (Saturday).
These pictures - kindly forwarded to us by the Independent Brigg Line Rail Group - were taken on Saturday, July 17 by Brian Hall, to whom we extend our thanks. These trains were being hauled by Class 66 locos.
We can expect more railway photographers and train enthusiasts to show interest in trains along the Brigg line today.

Motorists will experience some delays at the A1084 Bigby Road barrier crossing in Brigg at times today while the diverted trains pass through in both directions.
