With hundreds of people across Brigg now getting ready to watch England's footballers in the Euro 2020 tournament final on Sunday, bars across the town are expected to see a temporary dip in normal trade tonight (Saturday, July 10) due to some folk opting to switch their usual weekend night out.
Licensed premises in Brigg were busy on Wednesday as people called in to watch big screen live coverage of Gareth Southgate's side defeating Denmark 2-1 in the semi-final.
England now meet Italy at the same venue - Wembley Stadium, London - on Sunday, July 11 (8pm kick-off), this being the first major tournament final our national side has reached since July 1966.
That was in the World Cup, and some of us in Brigg can remember watching the nail-biting 4-2 (after extra time) win over West Germany... in our homes on small-sized black and white TV sets!
England skipper Bobby Moore (West Ham) famously climbed the steps after the match to be presented with the famous Jules Rimet Trophy - a truly iconic moment in the country's sporting history... as was clubmate Geoff Hurst's hat-trick of goals.
Sunday night will be VERY busy for Brigg bars offering big screen coverage.
The Prime Minister has indicated there will be no problem with licensed premises across England remaining open so people can watch the entire match if it goes to extra time and then a penalty shoot-out.
With England and Italy being very well-matched teams, this might well come to pass.
And finally... if England do win, will Brigg people please spare a thought for local pets and refrain from letting off noisy fireworks as they celebrate the achievement? Thanks.
