Many Brigg people will be visiting licensed premises to watch big screen TV coverage of England's Euro 2020 football semi-final against Denmark tonight (Wednesday, July 7).
The big match, which kicks off at 8pm at London's Wembley Stadium, will be the talk of the town as Gareth Southgate and his players aim to become the first England side to make the final of a major tournament since 1966 when Sir Alf Ramsey's line-up did so and famously went on to win the World Cup.
Brigg football fans who have watched qualifying group games, the 'round of 16' knockout tie and the quarter-final over recent weeks are now well aware of their favourite Brigg pub or licensed club venue for viewing the action.
Among them is Brigg Town Football Club's Hawthorns from where, in May 1996, manager Raz Clayton and his team departed for the original Wembley ground to win the the FA Vase by beating Clitheroe 3-0 in the final.
If England beat Denmark this evening they will play Italy who defeated Spain last night to book a spot in the final. A penalty shoot-out was necessary to settle the issue after a 1-1 draw at the end of normal time and then 30 minutes' extra time.
The Euro 2020 final will be contested at Wembley from 8pm on Sunday (July 11).
