BRIGG CRICKETERS TO PLAY ON FAMOUS GROUND GRACED BY TEST STARS

Brigg Town cricketers will be playing on one of Lincolnshire's most famous grounds this weekend... following in the footsteps of some notable Test cricketers of the past.
Brigg will journey to Lincoln to visit the historic Lindum venue in the city on Saturday (July 3).
Lindum 3rds, who play in Lincolnshire County Cricket League, normally play on another ground in Lincoln, with the club's first and second teams having home games at the main one.
However, the 2nds have an away fixture this Saturday, while the club's first team has qualified for the ECB League's Winkworth Cup semi-finals and final day in Sleaford.
This means that Brigg's players will be stepping out at the Lindum, established in the early 19th century, which has staged many Lincolnshire games in the Minor Counties championship down the decades and also hosted Lincs games against first class opposition in the NatWest Trophy competition (later known as the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy).
Members of Brigg Town Cricket Club visited the Lindum in 2004, as spectators, to see Lincolnshire play Glamorgan in one of these ties.
Welshman Robert Croft, who played 21 Test matches for England and 50 one day internationals, liked batting on the Lincoln square - making 143 (his joint career best score) as the Dragons secured victory against the Minor Counties 'minnows' who had seemed capable of causing an upset until Crofty (better known as a spin bowler) dashed their hopes.
Australian and New Zealand touring sides have played at the Lindum, while first class counties to have appeared there in addition to Glamorgan include Surrey, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. There will have been some Test players on duty in these ties. Lincs v Derbyshire in the NatWest Trophy in 1997 was also watched by some spectators from Brigg.
Former Brigg all-rounder Liam Redmond is a current Lindum playing member.
We also recall some enjoyable games on the Lindum with Brigg Hockey Club, when this sport was still being played on grass, and covering a number of Lincolnshire Minor Counties fixtures there for the Grimsby & Scunthorpe Telegraphs in the 1980s. Meals served in the spacious and licensed clubhouse were always of the highest standard.
