SALAD'S MEATY DRIVES & BEDDERS' BOWLING HELP STEER BRIGG TOWN TO VICTORY

Brigg Town Cricket Club secured the maximum 20 points on offer with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Horncastle in Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Three yesterday (Saturday, July 10) with two players who are not regulars taking the eye.
This welcome win - their second of the season in the league - has moved Town up to mid-table after five fixtures.
Horncastle were invited to bat first and lost three early wickets, which set the scene for their innings as effective and accurate Brigg bowling, across 30 overs, saw the visitors dismissed for only 33.
Richard 'Bedders' Bedwell, a left-arm seamer, was the pick of the Brigg attack, claiming four wickets at a cost of only three runs in six overs - four of which were maidens.
Also among the wickets were Nick Beacock (three for 10), Vijay Raju (two for three) and Danny Minshall (one for four).
With threatening black clouds building in the distance, Town decided on a positive approach after the interval, with Danny 'Salad' Dewfall cracking a quickfire 14 with some meaty drives down the ground.
However, the heavens then opened and the winning run was scored in a heavy downpour which intensifed into a cloudburst soon after the players had left the field.
Danny Dewfall and Richard Bedwell, who often played for Brigg 20+ years ago, are not regulars in the team these days. So it was good to see them back in action again at the Rec. Several mainstays of the 2021 squad were unavailable yesterday,
Result: Brigg Town (20pts) beat Horncastle (0pts) by eight wickets.
Umpire: Jim Balderson.
The late afternoon rain which hit the Brigg area yesterday ruined Hibaldstow's home game in Division One. The villagers were bowled out for 113 (Josh Cowling scoring 30) with Scunthorpe Town 2nds making 24 for one in 10 overs before the game had to be abandoned.
Broughton kept up their promotion push in Division One with a narrow two-wicket away win at Louth 2nds. Experienced all-rounder Paul Mitchell took three for 14 in nine overs as Louth were contained to 151 for eight, and he was unbeaten with 27 as Broughton won with 3.5 overs to spare, although they did not secure maximum points on this occasion.
