BRIGG FREEMASONS HOLD FIRST OPEN DAY FOR MANY YEARS

Brigg Freemasons held on open day on Saturday (September 28).
Brigg Blog being out of town and therefore unable to attend as planned, the Freemasons have kindly supplied the following illustrated report...

The Freemasons in Brigg occupy a handsome 19th Century Georgian town house in Cary Lane, near to the Market Place.  However, the blue door is usually closed to non-members, leading to intrigue about what secrets it may contain.

That curiosity was satisfied this Saturday as the Freemasons opened up their building in their first open day for many years.
The ground floor was devoted to the charitable work of the Masonic Organisation.  It is said that the charity is second in providing support only to that of the National Lottery.  Last year they gave away over £33 million.  Locally, donations of £77,000 provided immediate support in Wainfleet following the flooding.  Smaller organisations also benefit, with £106,500 being donated to over 130 groups within Lincolnshire.
The first floor featured a display of masonic regalia and information about the organisation, from the structure of the lodges and process of the meetings, to the more fundamental matters such as the annual subscriptions! Two lodges meet in Brigg; Ancholme and Glanford Vale.  Each meets once a month, eight times a year, from October through to May.
The second floor was an impressive sight, with the Masonic temple open to all.  The black and white carpet was probably the most sticking feature, but the sheer amount of symbolism on display was staggering.  The lodge boards detailed the past members of the lodges – many visitors noted names familiar to the town, stretching back to 1869.
