CAN YOU HELP THE BRIGG ROTARY CLUB APPEAL 2019?

Crocuses are again to be planted on verges, gardens and flower beds across Brigg in a now-familiar initiative overseen by Brigg Rotary Club, relating to the worldwide eradication of polio through vaccination.

Brigg Rotary, with the support of local businesses, individual supporters, churches and the Brigg Council planted over 22,000 crocus corms last November in and around Brigg in as many public and private spaces as possible. The intention now is to not only raise people's awareness that we are very close to eradicating polio worldwide (only 44 cases so far in 2019) but also raise much needed money to buy the vaccinations. We are working to ensure a total immunisation for all the children in Pakistan, Afghanistan as they are the only countries where polio is present. The colour of our crocuses is purple. This is the colour of the dye that immunised children have their fingers dipped in. This allows us to identify those that still need to be immunised before we leave their village. The cost of 15 crocuses is £2.
There will be extensive publicity about this initiative as well as a social media campaign. For those organisations that buy over £20 of crocuses (150 Corms) we will be making, as last year, some personal acknowledgement plaques to go alongside the crocuses when they flower, recognising that you have supported this appeal!  If you are unable to plant them we will plant them on your behalf in a location you choose. ALL monies raised will be spent on buying polio vaccinations, with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation increasing any monies that we raise by 2-1, so that £2 becomes £6 which buys 30 vaccinations.
