RAILWAYMEN REACH SPORTING SHIELD SEMI-FINALS
For the 5th time in the last 6 seasons Barnetby have reached the semi finals of the Sporting Shield. They triumphed 4-0 against Limestone Rangers to set up a semi-final tie away to Crosby Colts on December 7th.
Limestone could have been 2-0 up in the opening minutes but from Barnetby’s first attack Jake Parker swung in a corner that was met by the head of Brendan O’Callaghan to put Barnetby 1-0 on 5 minutes.
Limestone had settled the better but squandered chances. On 15 minutes Will Watson carried the ball out from the back, cut inside and then fed O’Callaghan into the inside left channel, he made no mistake to put Barnetby 2-0 up.
Barnetby came into the game now and pressed the men from Willoughton at every turn.
O’Callaghan centred a ball from the left which Ben Hunt killed instantly, his initial attempt was blocked but he was able to nod home his 1st of the season from the rebound.
3-0 up at the break The Railwaymen lost O’Callaghan with a leg injury early in the 2nd half and the game ebbed and flowed with no great chances created at either end.
As the half wore on Alex Green found space on the left as did his replacement Olly Lloyd. Jack Wilson sent in some telling crosses from the right and when Will Hartley broke through the centre he saw his attempt saved but Will Forrest was hand to smash home to rebound and put the Railwaymen into the last 4.
It was also Barnetby’s first clean sheet since March 23rd, as Dobbs in goal with Watson Stothard and Merrick in front him and Andy Bradley in front of them were outstanding.
