BRIGG NOSTALGIA LOVERS CAN ENJOY FILM SHOW USING VINTAGE PROJECTOR
People from the Brigg area who have an interest in railways, transport and how things used to be may be interested in attending a film show that's now on track.
The organisers tell us that enthusiasm for railways and transport is thriving across North Lincolnshire.
Rob Foxon will be presenting another of his popular film shows from 7.30pm on Thursday, November 14 at the Memorial Hall, Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, DN35 8AH.
Genuine historic film footage will be screened using a vintage film projector - "just like those of a certain age may remember from school."
Brigg Blog has attended a number of these shows over the years and they always attract big attendances to this sizeable venue.
Grimsby-born film archivist and railway enthusiast Rob, who now lives in the Midlands, is celebrating 40 years of archive film shows this year, but always looks forward to "returning home" to Lincolnshire.
This time he will present a specially prepared Railways Remembered show.
There will be significant 'film finds' including Midland Railway footage (1896-1909), traditional railway civil engineering with steam-powered navvies and a special local item showing Cleethorpes promenade in the 1930s (courtesy of Classic Home Cinema, Cleethorpes).
There will also be contributions from prominent amateur cameramen featuring the Wirksworth branch, steam in East Anglia and trains at York in 1960.
There’s a special item on Beyer Garratt articulated locomotives and reminders of some much-loved film classics, being screened the way the original film makers intended us to see them - on FILM on the big screen!
As Rob stresses, there's nothing digital about his shows!
Supporting the event will be the Friends of the Barton Line, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway (Ludborough to North Thoresby), the Grimsby Branch of the WEA (workers' education), Classic Home Cinema and others.
Tickets - priced £7 - will be on sale on the door on the night of the show.
Parking is available at, and near, the venue which is best reached from Brigg via the A18, rather than the M180.
Travel through Melton Ross and Great Limber, keep going past Morrisons (on the outskirts of Grimsby) and stay on the A18 until you reach the Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, roundabout with the wonderful white-painted art deco building ahead of you. The Memorial Hall adjoins this roundabout.
Those electing to take the longer route along the M180/A180 should go right to the end of the latter, then travel up Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby, and Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, passing Blundell Park football ground, until they see the art deco building on the left near the roundabout.
