An application seeking permission to extend the opening hours of a new sports centre in Brigg is being backed by the Town Council.
Brigg Kickboxing Club is now seeking an amendment, having already been granted approval for Monday to Friday 5pm to 8pm operation at the Barn venue behind the former Nelthorpe Arms pub, off Bridge Street, and change of use of this building.
The club is now seeking the following operating hours:
Kickboxing & associated class: Monday to Friday, 9am to 9pm, Saturday, 10am to 5pm; Sunday and bank holidays, 11am to 4pm.
Club activities: Saturday, noon to 5pm; Sunday and bank holidays, noon to 4pm.
Brigg Town Council was consulted as the first stage in the planning process.
Having discussed what's now being proposed, the Planning & Environment Committee raised no objections.
Town Mayor Coun Sharon Riggall said the club was clearly thriving, with many members, and pointed out that the adjoining pub (now closed) had once stayed open until 11pm.
Coun Jane Gibbons pointed out that the town's two main car parks are within walking distance of the former Nelthorpe Arms site.
At the same meeting, the Town Council committee raised no objections to the following:
- Permission to erect two-storey rear extension at 8 Woodbine Avenue.
- Insert loft windows to front and rear at 6 Albert Street.
- Erect a single-storey rear extension at 12 Elwes Street.
- Retain a conservatory at 36 Burgess Road.
- Listed building consent to replace first floor windows to front elevation at First Floor Flat, 5, Bigby Street.
