BRIGG VICAR LEAVING TO TAKE UP NEW APPOINTMENT
A farewell presentation has been made to well-known Brigg Vicar, Father Owain Mitchell, who is moving parishes to take up a new appointment at New Mills, Derbyshire.
He also administers to the spiritual needs of parishioners in Worlaby, Cadney & Howsham, Wrawby and Bonby.
Father Owain's final service at St John's Church, Brigg, will be held on Sunday, December 29.
Since coming to Brigg he has also served as Chaplain to a number of Town Mayors - saying prayers at the beginning of scores of council meetings held in the Angel Suite and officiating at annual Civic Services and those held on Remembrance Sunday..
Current Town Mayor, Coun Sharon Riggall, made a presentation to him on behalf of fellow councillors and staff prior to the authority's latest meeting, held on Monday (November 25), Father Owain expressed his thanks for the gift and card and extended his best wishes to Brigg Town Council for the future.
He will be taking charge at his new Peak District parish, and its St George's Church, during the New Year.
Under the heading 'Important Announcement' his new parish says on its website it is delighted to announce his appointment.
"We also pray for the congregations he will be leaving as they now prepare to seek and appoint a new Vicar," it adds.
New Mills is in north-west Derbyshire and has a population of approximately 10,500 - so it's much larger than Brigg.
Brigg Blog has contacted the Lincoln Diocese, requesting to be kept informed about the appointment of Father Owain's successor.
The St John's Church website says he has been the Vicar of Brigg, Wrawby and Cadney-cum-Howsham since 2005, and the Vicar of Worlaby and Bonby since 2010.
He grew up in the East Yorkshire village of Patrington, and attended Withernsea High School. After training for the Priesthood at The College of the Resurrection in Mirfield, he served in Bridlington before moving to Brigg.
We remember interviewing him for the Scunthorpe Telegraph when his move to our town was announced in 2005.
