BRIGG TOWN'S VICTORY HOPES DERAILED BUT BARNETBY ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK

Having led at one point against Harrogate Railway Athletic (pardon the pun), Brigg Town Football Club lost 3-2 on their travels in the ToolStation Northern Counties East First Division yesterday (Saturday, November 16).
Harrogate took an early lead but this was cancelled out by a Stuart Longbone goal after 37 minutes. Ryan Moody then put Brigg ahead with a 45th minute penalty.
However, further goals after 59 and 73 minutes earned Harrogate all three points.
Only 77 spectators watched this fixture - the day's lowest attendance in Division One.
The result leaves Brigg's first teamers in fifth from bottom spot in the standings, having taken 13 points from 15 games.
At the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns) Brigg Town Reserves managed to play yesterday, despite all that recent rain, but lost 4-2 against Louth Town in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier. The Reserves are eighth in the table, with 11 points from as many fixtures.
In EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League Division Two, Briggensians v Epworth Town Colts Development failed to go ahead at Brigg Recreation Ground.
Also called off, and to be re-arranged, was the Barnetby United Reserves v Limestone Rangers Reserves quarter-final clash in the Johnsons Transport Ironstone Cup at Silver Street.
However, Division One leaders Barnetby United won 5-2 at The Butchers Arms in a Challenge Cup quarter-final.
Brigg Blog's thanks go to Barnetby's Lee Fielden for the match report of the first team tie below and these action pictures taken yesterday. Barnetby are in their familiar black and white strip.

SEESAW TIE SEES RAILWAYMEN RISE TO THE CHALLENGE AND REACH THE SEMIS

Barnetby United finally beat The Butchers Arms at the 7th attempt to reach the semi finals of the challenge cup, but only after surviving a second half onslaught that saw them surrender a 2 goal lead.
Brendan O’Callaghan gave the Railwaymen the lead after 5 minutes when he turned in  a loose ball from a corner.
Makeshift forward Andy Dawson  rolled back the years  after great work from Ben Popple and bundled the ball into the net to put his side 2-0 up. He then had a header from a corner not given despite huge claims the ball has crossed the line and O‘Callaghan fluffed his lines 20 yards out.
Butchers Arms got into the game and got their just rewards after 37 minutes when Jack Rhodes scrambled the  ball into the net.
On the resumption there was one way traffic as Butchers bombarded the Barnetby box but the back line of Watson Scott and Stothard held firm with Thirkell in impressive form with the gloves behind them.
On 65 minutes their resistance was breached and Ben Lock made it 2-2. Coming down the slope at Newport Drive The Butchers were in the box seat.
Barnetby need a moment magic to turn the tide in a game they were losing.
A huge clearance from Sam Thirkell sent Brendan O’Callaghan in down the inside left channel. He looked up and thundered a 30 yarder over the keeper and put the Railwaymen 3-2 up.
Moments later it was 4-2 as O’Callaghan strode through to complete his hat trick, and Will Forrest capped off a great win with the 5th.
