ELSHAM GOLF CLUB NEWS UPDATE FROM BRIGG BLOG
Brigg Blog thanks Peter Thompson for further news updates from Elsham Golf Club, whose membership includes many people from our town and surrounding villages...
There were 112 players taking part in the Captains' Drive In at Elsham Golf Club. They made up 28 teams, each playing as a four ball.
The event marked the start of new Captain Robert Adcock’s year of office, together with his wife Melanie, who is the new Lady Captain.
Winning team with 93 points were the team of Lee Mackrill, Steve Taylor, Andrew Simpson and Mick White.
In second place, with 89 points, were the team of Leslie Dunn, John Waudby, Archie Williamson and Livi Piner.
In third place, with 83 points, were John Harris, Sarah Harris, Emma Rooke and Brian Simpson.
A highlight of the day was the Girls' Development Team’s contribution to the event in running the half-way house providing refreshments for golfers during their round. They raised £511 for girls development golf at Elsham; this was boosted by £280 raised by Stacey Mitchell, Girls Development Officer, who ran a ‘through the night marathon.’
A dinner dance took place in the clubhouse during the evening with Mood Swing providing the music.
Robert Adcock replaces Andrew Clark who was club captain for 2018-2019 - Melanie, his wife, replacing Suzanne Watson as Lady Captain. Susan and Andrew wished the newly elected captains every success for the forthcoming year.
Robert said: "We had a fantastic weekend to mark the start of our year of office with all the events being superbly supported by the members. The total raised over the weekend was around £1000 which is fantastic news for girls' golf development. I am delighted to take up the office of Captain of the club and we look forward to a successful year in office. my Captain's Charity will be The Alzheimer's Society."

Elsham Golf Club Head Greenkeeper Colin Hopper, pictured above, is venturing across the pond for his next step up the ladder of excellence.
Colin has been part of the green keeping team at both the Ryder Cup held at Le Golf National Paris and the Solheim Cup recently held at Gleneagles, which he described as a great experience.
Having now conquered Europe, Colin has expanded his horizons and is now to show his undoubted skills to our American Cousins. Colin has been asked to help at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to be held at TPC Scotsdale Arizona.
This is the event with the famous par 3 sixteenth hole surrounded with stands and noisy fans.
"Colin will be away from mid-January for two weeks," said Club Chairman Robert Taylor. "The trip and the further knowledge Colin will acquire will yet further enhance his ability to maintain Elsham as one of the premier courses in Lincolnshire and beyond.
“Colin is one of the best green keepers in the country and a genuine person who continues to push Elsham from strength to strength.”
