COUNCIL LOOKING TO LET VICTORIAN MANSION NEAR BRIGG AS WELL AS TOWN AUCTION SITE

A large detached property in the Brigg area - built as a mansion for a rich Victorian industrial pioneer - is being 'actively marketed' by North Lincolnshire Council, which is looking to let the premises on a long term basis.
The unitary authority is advertising The Grove, on West Street, Scawby, through its own commercial section and agent Rightmove.
The rental price indicated is £100,000 per year for the 13,000 sq ft Grove, occupying grounds of 4.75 acres.
The grade two listed building is surplus to the council's requirements. From the early 1960s until a few years ago it was used as a social services children's home. The Grove's most recent use was as |"a small family-run school for special educational needs."
It will be the responsibility of any tenant to seek 'change of use' planning permission, depending on what type of business they propose to operate.
A North Lincolnshire Council brochure listing details of The Grove "to let - offers invited" says there is  "commercial development opportunity such as hotel, office HQ, conference or wedding venue."
The mansion was built for Scunthorpe ironmaster Joseph Cliff in 1890 - the year in which he pioneered installation of the first steelmaking furnaces in North Lincolnshire at his Frodingham Works.
A recent meeting of Scawby Parish Council Grove heard the property was currently being actively marketed by the North Lincolnshire authority.
Coun Neil Poole, one of the Ridge Ward representatives, suggested the parish council should discuss what it felt to be a suitable/acceptable use for The Grove and advise ward councillors of its views so these could be taken into consideration. The parish council agreed to make this an agenda item for another meeting.
Anyone interested in renting The Grove can call council staff on 01724 646010.

In addition to marketing The Grove's availability, the council continues to market the lease of the auction site on Station Road, Brigg - "offers invited." Thursday sales were suspended many months ago and a new operator is  required. View details here...
