BRIGG HELPS TO KEEP THE WHEELS OF INDUSTRY TURNING

The value of the railway line through Brigg as a route for heavy freight trains is again being demonstrated at the moment as the town's tracks help to keep the wheels of industry turning.
All six Saturdays-only passenger trains are temporarily suspended along the Brigg line, but goods wagons continue to be hauled through the town.
The Independent Brigg Line Rail Group has kindly supplied a list showing this week's trains (up to today, Friday).
Tuesday, March 9: 5 biomass trains.
Wednesday, March 10: 5 biomass trains, 2 oil trains, 1 steel train.
Thursday, March 11: 4 biomass trains, 1 oil train, 1 steel train, 1 Network Rail train*.
Friday, March 12: 4 biomass trains, 1 oil train, 1 steel train.
The imported biomass material arrives at the port of Immingham and is taken to the Drax power station in Yorkshire to generate green-sourced electricity for the grid.
* On Wednesday night a 1,400-tonne Network Rail civil engineer's train left Eastleigh, in far away Hampshire, headed north to Doncaster and then along the Brigg line to Wrawby Junction, where it changed direction to reach Scunthorpe around 6.30am on Thursday.
If the busy Doncaster-Scunthorpe-Barnetby route is unavailable for any reason, the Brigg line is often used as an alternative to keep freight moving.
