BRIGG AIMS TO BECOME 'PLASTIC FREE'

Brigg is working its way towards becoming a 'Plastic Free Town'.
As one of the first steps, the Town Council will be contacting businesses and local schools to seek pledges of support. A request will be made to use non-plastic bags which can be used again and again.
The message is: "Single-use plastic is old hat."
The council is now pricing up a supply of suitable bags not made from plastic, and will be working with local traders. Using the 'Love Brigg' slogan, these re-usable bags will also encourage people to 'Shop Local'.
It is also hoped that food outlets will use paper bags to wrap purchases in preference to plastic.
A fountain is to be installed in the town centre where people will be able to top up water bottles instead of throwing empty ones away and using others made of plastic.
England's first 'Plastic Free Town' is thought to have been Penzance, in Cornwall, which achieved its aim several years ago.
