We got our first look inside the new-look Riverside Surgery in Brigg very recently while attending for Covid jab No 1.
The facility is impressive and reminded us of how much things have progressed since the 1960s when childhood injections against polio, diphtheria , whooping cough, tetanus and other ailments were administered in Dr Foxton's surgery housed within a tall building on Bridge Street between the petrol station and Mill Lane (long since converted to flats).
We can still remember Dr John's basic waiting room, heated by an old gas fire.
Does anyone else recall visits to his practice on Bridge Street?
It later relocated to another large property The Cedars, on Bigby Road, near the Monument (today occupied by computer software firm Vanilla).
In the 1970s, Drs Foxton, Bowler, Proctor and Dixon practised here. Also available at The Cedars, in addition to the GP surgery, were child health services, a toddlers' clinic, relaxation and mothercraft, a mothers' club, speech therapy and dental services.
Then came the move to the present Riverside site, where a purpose-built surgery was constructed off Barnard Avenue.
