POPULAR BRIGG FARMERS' MARKET ABOUT TO ENTER ITS THIRD DECADE

Brigg Farmers' Market starts a new year and a new decade this weekend.

I say, a new decade... for a VIP visitor to North Lincolnshire Council's bold venture when it launched early in the new millennium was actor John Savident, who for 12 years played butcher Fred Elliott in the TV 'soap' series.
This character had a habit of repeating his sentences. I say, repeating his sentences!
John's visit to Brigg helped to market the farmers' market to a wider audience.
Since then the monthly attraction has continued to thrive, winning a national award.
The latest - to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 - will be open from 9am until mid-afternoon.
Producers sell a wide range of food and drink to the public from stalls in the Market Place.
The availability of free all-day parking on Saturdays - a concession from North Lincolnshire Council - helps to attract people to the farmers' market and the adjoining Saturday general market.
The increased footfall then benefits local shops and businesses, with people visiting other outlets before or after touring the stalls.
Some stallholders have been supporting the farmers' market for many years.
Shoppers all have their favourites, but we find it hard to pass the Lincolnshire Poacher cheese stall without stopping to buy a pack to take home.
