BRIGG AND BARNETBY FOOTBALLERS ENJOY HAPPY AWAY DAY

 

Brigg Town Football Club, Briggensians and Barnetby United all enjoyed away wins yesterday (Saturday, January 25). So that adds up to a hat-trick of 'on the road's victories!
Town visited the Doncaster area to secure a 2-0 success at Rossington Main.
Ryan Thompson and Jake Reed were on the mark in the first half, and Brigg have now moved up to 13th place in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One, which has 20 teams this season.
In the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District League, Briggensians beat Barnetby United Reserves 2-1 at the railway village's Silver Street ground. Ben Lingard scored twice for the Brigg-based team, with Jaroslav Judiny replying.
Briggensians are now fourth in the table, while Barnetby Reserves remain in second spot.

RAILWAYMEN GAIN REVENGE FOR CUP DEFEAT

Ben Hunt and Brendan O’Callaghan both bagged braces as Barnetby gained revenge for their cup exit at Crosby hands on the same pitch 7 weeks ago.
They started the brighter and had chances attacking up the hill in the opening stages but were undone when a huge punt down field sailed over the Barnetby back line and allowed Ben Smith to nip in and loft the ball over the advancing Dobbs.
Crosby took control of the game now and hit the cross bar from a free kick and Wilson narrowly headed wide of his own goal.
Barnetby got on level terms on 35 minutes when great work from Andy Bradley kept the ball in play and fed O’Callaghan in the inside left channel, his low cross was turned in by Ben Hunt on his return to the starting line up from 6 yards out.
Again Crosby pressed but following a goal mouth scramble O’Callaghan squeezed the ball home for his 16th of the season and despite being under pressure for long periods Barnetby lead 2-1 at the break.
Within a minute of the restart it was 4-1 as first Hunt then O’Callaghan got their 2nd goals of the game as Barnetby raced out of the traps.
It could have been 5 when the upright denied Hunt what would have been a deserved hat trick and Forrest, Parker and Popple all saw efforts saved.
The game was far from finished and when Ryan Hughes slotted home coolly from the edge of the box a tense finish was in store.
Try as they might though Crosby could not find a way past Dobbs and the resilient Barnetby backline again and they held out for a deserved 3 points.
