FORMER BRIGG LANDLORD BACK PERFORMING ELVIS & OTHER ROCK AND ROLL FAVOURITES IN OUR AREA

A very well-known singer and former Brigg publican performed a local gig at the weekend as Raving Rupert.
He is Malcolm (Mally) Halsall who for some years was landlord of the White Hart, on Bridge Street.
We hadn't heard of him performing locally for some time, so it was a pleasant surprise to learn that Mally had been booked to appear at Broughton Workingmen's Club on Saturday (January 11).
He became one of the UK's first Elvis (Presley) tribute acts - performing across the UK and aboard from the 1960s.
However, although singing some of The King's numbers in Broughton, he made it a rock and roll night. We're told he was very good and that his songs were appreciated by members of the popular venue on Broughton High Street.
One winter's evening many years ago, Brigg Hockey Club teamed up Malcolm (as Elvis) alongside better half Maureen (as Tina Turner) for a gig at the Exchange in Brigg. Maureen had been a member of leading Scunthorpe band The Freeways.
We once paid a quick visit to Brigg's original Lidl store, near Springs Parade, to pick up a pack of bottled beer when we spotted Mally doing some shopping.
He was still touring the store when we got to the checkout and told the assistant: "Elvis is in the building!"

Perhaps Mally will make a return visit to Broughton WMC and/or perform at one of the Brigg bars that books live music 'turns'.
Singer Travis Graham will be performing soul, ska, funk and more at Broughton WMC tonight (Saturday 18th).
