BRIGG FOLK ASKED TO TAKE NOTE OF IMPORTANT TRAVEL ADVICE

Some people from Brigg use the Saturdays-only passenger train service from our station to travel down to London.
Railway enthusiasts also make the journey north to ride along the iconic Brigg line, which includes Kirton Tunnel, created in the 1840s.
However, here's a word of warning - headed Important Travel Advice -  for local folk who are thinking of visiting the capital in coming weeks via connecting services from Retford.
Passenger train operator LNER says: "We’re getting in touch to make you aware that Network Rail planned engineering works will be taking place over the weekend of Saturday 25 January and Sunday 26 January and again on Saturday 29 February and Sunday 1 March.
"During these weekends we are advising customers NOT TO TRAVEL TO OR FROM LONDON.
"There will be no trains in or out of London Kings Cross Station, with southbound services terminating at Peterborough on 25 and 26 January. Southbound services will terminate at St Neots on 29 February and 1 March.
"These works are the latest part of the East Coast Upgrade - the ongoing £1.2bn Network Rail investment into the East Coast Main Line that will improve capacity, create faster journeys and increase reliability on long-distance services."
Brigg Blog's thanks go to Brigg rail line campaigner Paul Johnson for passing on these details.
You can also get to London on Saturdays by taking the first Northern company train of the morning from Brigg to Barnetby, changing to a TransPennine Express train to Doncaster and then travelling south.
The other alternative is Brigg to Barnetby, then boarding the East Midlands Railway service to Newark.
From the late 1840s to the early 1990s when the Saturdays-only service was introduced, Brigg people regularly boarded trains at our station and then changed at Retford to access services (north and south) along the east coast mainline.
It would be wonderful if, somehow, the clock could be turned back to enable this to happen again. This is high up on Brigg Blog's wish list!
