PLANS FOR NEW HOMES IN BRIGG REFUSED

An outline planning application seeking permission for new homes in Brigg has been refused by North Lincolnshire Council.
Approval was sought for up to nine dwellings 'on land at Westrum Lane'.
This application was made public in late December 2020 and was followed by a consultation period which ended on February 8, 2021.
It was eventually placed before the council's Planning Committee, which met a few days ago and decided to refuse the application, which the authority described as being of 'significant public interest'.
Giving its reasons for refusing permission, the council said: "The application site is located beyond the development boundary of Brigg, within the countryside. The proposal amounts to unjustified windfall residential development in the countryside that is not essential to the functioning of the countryside, does not meet identified local needs, does not result in additional community benefits and, due to necessary highway improvements, would result in the loss of the site frontage hedgerow that makes an important contribution to the character and amenity of the site and the surrounding area."
Anyone refused planning permission by a local authority may, if they wish, lodge an appeal to be carried out by a Government-appointed inspector.
The proposed site on Westrum Lane is not far from the border between North Lincolnshire and West Lindsey.
