PLANS TO REPAIR FIRE-DAMAGED BRIDGE IN THE BRIGG AREA

Plans have been announced to repair and refurbish a well-known bridge in the Brigg area so it can again be used by vehicles - after a gap of three years.
Listed building consent is being sought to carry out repairs and associated works to fire-damaged Hibaldstow Bridge on the River Ancholme.
The grade two listed arched structure on South Carr Lane - constructed by Porter & Co of Lincoln in 1889 - was damaged by fire in April 2019.
Information supplied to North Lincolnshire Council in support of the application explains: "Following fire damage to the superstructure, access to the bridge has been restricted to pedestrians. It is proposed to return the bridge to vehicular use by repairing the fire damaged elements."
Timber, masonry, paintwork and metal parts of the bridge will require attention.
Replacement timber decking will be pressure-treated to achieve a minimum serviceable lifespan of 30 years.
The works will return the bridge to the condition it was in before suffering fire damage "with no change to its external appearance."
A detailed Environment Agency report concludes by saying: "The proposals meet the requirement to repair Hibaldstow Bridge and return it to full use."
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering the application, with a public consultation underway until September 15.
Subject to consent being granted, it is planned for carry out the work between November 2022 and March 2023.
The current bridge (improved in the 1990s) links North Kelsey and Cadney with Hibaldstow. It replaced a timber one constructed during the early 19th century.
