HARDY BRIGG PUB CUSTOMERS GLAD THEY VENTURED OUT

Some Brigg pubs decided to call time early due to prolonged bouts of heavy rain which drenched the town during the afternoon and early evening yesterday (Saturday, May 8).
But a visit we made a little later found three hostelries still welcoming customers for 'table service' in their beer gardens - Wetherspoon's White Horse, the Lord Nelson and the Dying Gladiator.
Covered seating behind the Nelson was occupied by plenty of customers. But by 7.30pm the temperature was a pleasantly mild 15C/16C - some 10 degrees above what Hardy souls at this hostelry (and elsewhere) have faced on some recent Saturday nights.
The Gladiator attracted a good-sized attendance in its beer garden to the side of the premises, helped by the absence of rain in the hours leading up to last orders.
A positive sign that things are about to return to something approaching normality is a live music act being booked to perform towards the end of this month at the Nelson after more lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

The weather today is expected to remain mainly rain-free after mid-morning - with temperatures possibly reaching 19C this afternoon. So pub customers who gave it a miss last night should have an opportunity to enjoy a pint or two in pleasant conditions later today.

PICTURED: Customers who visited the Lord Nelson's beer garden last night were pleased they didn't decide to throw in the (bar) towel and stay at home. Motifs on the pint glasses indicate real ale made by the Old Mill Brewery at Snaith - the Nelson being the company's only local outlet.
