BRIGG FARMERS' MARKET ON SATURDAY WILL SEE SHOPPERS COMING BY TRAIN, BUS & CAR

The monthly Brigg Farmers' Market this weekend is expected to attract a big attendance, as it's the first to be staged since eateries and pubs were permitted to relaunch indoor table service and also coincides with the restoration of our local train service.
Shoppers visiting the farmers' market stalls on Saturday, May 22 will have the opportunity to eat in cafes, restaurants and those pubs serving meals, and can enjoy a pint or glass of wine indoors, if they wish, on licensed premises.
The farmers' market and local businesses worked in tandem every farmers' market Saturday until the declaration of the Coronavirus emergency, which resulted in several lockdown periods.
The Saturday general market will also be operating this weekend, alongside the bigger farmers' event, from 8am through to the afternoon.
The resumption of Brigg's passenger train service this Saturday may see some people from South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and other parts of northern Lincolnshire coming to town for the market, including Cleethorpes, Grimsby, Gainsborough, Worksop, Retford, Kirton and even Sheffield. The first east-bound train will get to our station at 9.13am.
Those arriving in Brigg by car on Saturday will be able to take advantage of the FREE parking concession made available by North Lincolnshire Council, which organises our local markets.
The circular bus service, operated by Ashby-based Hornsbys, will also be busy as it picks up passengers from housing estates in Brigg and drops them off in Cary Lane to do their shopping.
Some people living in our area may also opted to travel on dial-ride JustGo and Lincolnshire CallConnect buses.
As ever, the weather will be a factor in Saturday's attendance. So fingers crossed for some fine spells.
Forecasts suggest it will be cloudy with some showers possible during market trading hours and temperatures a bit below average for late May.
Farmers' market stalls offer a range of items including cheese, jam, bread, pies, cakes, meat and often bottled beer (brewed locally). The general market provided fruit & veg, fish and flowers.
Shoppers in Brigg town centre on Saturday need to comply with social distancing guidelines. Although masks are not mandatory in the open air, we expect many to be worn by market visitors.
