The Brigg and Barnetby football sides have failed to make it through to the play-offs in the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League this Saturday (May 15) but all four local Lincolnshire County Cricket League teams will be in action, weather permitting.
Brigg Town will make only their second appearance of the new season which began in mid-April - visiting Caistor 2nds on Saturday for a Supplementary Cup qualifying group fixture. It will be 30 overs a side at Caistor's Brigg Road ground on the outskirts of the town, from 2pm.
In Division One, Broughton host Alford at the Scawby Road venue, while Hibaldstow make the short trip to Messingham. Broughton 2nds are away to Alkborough in Division Two. All these league games are 45 overs a side and start at 1.30pm.
Brigg and Caistor first played each other in the mid-1970s when our Town club was re-started after a gap of four decades. They have met many times since in various competitions.
If Brigg Town can manage to qualify from their group after games in the coming weeks, they will make it through to the semi-finals.
The Supplementary Cup, introduced a few years ago and involving a shorter format, has proved popular with clubs in the lower divisions of the Lincolnshire League.
We'll keep Brigg Blog followers posted as the competition progresses.
