BRIGG BLOG'S SATURDAY MAY 8 FOOTBALL & CRICKET ROUND-UP INCLUDES A HAT-TRICK

Briggensians footballers finally completed the 2020/21 season with a home game at the Recreation Ground yesterday (Saturday, May 8).
Unfortunately, things did not end on a winning note as they lost 4-1 to Crowle Colts Development - Justin Walker netting for the home team.
Elsewhere in Division Two of the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League yesterday, Barnetby United Reserves lost 4-3 when hosting table-topping Kingsway at the railway village's Silver Street ground.
United's Nathan Plaskitt signed off for the season with a hat-trick.
The specially-arranged late season (post-Coronavirus emergency period) competition organised by this league has now reached the knockout stages, but Barnetby Reserves and Briggensians have failed to make it through to next Saturday's play-off finals involving the top four teams.
Barnetby Reserves just missed out, finishing third with three wins and two defeats from their five fixtures.
Briggensians managed one draw but lost their other games to finish at the foot of the table.
In Division One, Barnetby United's first teamers won 4-3 at Ashby Bowl yesterday with goals from George Merrick (2), Cameron Hill and Daniel Greaves.
Barnetby also failed to qualify for the knockout stage with one win, one draw and three defeats in their mini-league.
We'll be posting a full report of Barnetby's game at Ashby, with pictures, later today.
Rain meant that the local cricket matches yesterday involving Hibaldstow, Broughton and Broughton 2nds in the Lincolnshire League were washed out without a ball being bowled. Lincolnshire County Cricket League rules do not permit re-arrangement of league fixtures.
Brigg Town had a stroke of good fortune; some weeks ago they re-arranged May 8's scheduled game with Scunthorpe Town 3rds due to football being played (later than normal) at the Recreation Ground and clashing with cricket - one sport only being permitted.
This Division Three fixture will now take place on Saturday, July 24 at the Rec... weather permitting!
League fixtures & results secretary, Glen Sands, told Brigg Blog this morning that no play was possible in ANY games in the competition's four divisions yesterday. That came as no surprise!
