Brigg voters who went to our polling stations to cast their votes in an election on Thursday (May 6) have been waiting patiently to find out who won the contest to become the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner for the next four years.
The vote-counting in Bridlington took place yesterday (Saturday) and during the afternoon it was revealed that Jonathan Evison (Conservative) had topped the poll, gaining about 3,000 more votes across the Humberside Police area than Labour's Keith Hunter. In third place was Bob Morgan, the Liberal Democrat candidate.
Keith had been Humberside's Police & Crime Commissioner up to the time of the election. During his tenure he made a number of visits to Brigg, including addressing our Town Council in the Angel Suite.
Jon Evison, from Barton, also the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, is certainly no stranger to Brigg. He used to work in the Scunthorpe steel industry.
People living in villages near Brigg which are in West Lindsey, including Bigby and Grasby, voted in Thursday's Lincolnshire Police & Crime Commissioner election which saw Marc Jones, the Conservative candidate, re-elected for another term, having held this post since 2016. This count was also carried out yesterday.
Looking ahead, Brigg Blog suggests the authorities might consider reviewing their current practice of counting votes two days after people have been to the polls. Could it be undertaken a little earlier?
We'll also give ourselves a gentle rap on the knuckles for not posting this piece last night, and instead opting to visit a couple of local pubs!
