CANCELLLED: BRIGG & BARNETBY LOCAL FOOTBALL MATCHES

There were some hopes that football matches might go ahead as planned on grounds in Brigg and Barnetby today (Saturday, December 5). However, the scheduled matches have now been called off due to issues relating to the Coronavirus emergency.
We received notice of the this 'suspension' yesterday (Friday) from officials of the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District League.
The list for this afternoon had included Barnetby United hosting Crosby Colts at the village's Silver Street ground.
Brigg-based Briggensians were to have played a Division Two home fixture against league newcomers Baltic Boys.
Barnetby Reserves faced a journey to Scotter United Reserves in the Nev Watson Nursing Cup.
The statement from the league explained: "Due to the restrictions on travel imposed by the Government and the Football Association, it has been decided that all Scunthorpe & District Football League fixtures will be cancelled until Saturday 9th January 2021 at the earliest.

"I hope that you will appreciate that this decision has not been taken lightly but we feel we must keep everyone's health and safety at the forefront of our decisions. We will update you once further information is available. Take care & keep safe."
Brigg Town first team's league, the ToolStation Northern Counties East, had already cancelled all games until January due to Coronavirus emergency restrictions operative in Tier 3.

Matches in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League, in which Brigg Town Reserves take part, have also been postponed at present, with a review of the situation expected at some point in January.
