Brigg has now welcomed back its so-called 'non-essential' shops after lockdown, and today (Thursday, December 3) trading hours will be extended by some premises. It's also market day, of course, and the stalls will be open for business.
Together with the rest of North Lincolnshire, our town now finds itself in Coronavirus emergency Tier 3 having emerged from lockdown yesterday.
But although continuing its ban on eat-in restaurant meals and drinkers visiting licensed bars in our town, the government has permitted 'retail' to resume and join those 'essential' outlets which were allowed to keep trading during Lockdown 2.0.
Many independent shops allied to the Brigg Town Business Partnership will be staying open late tonight (Thursday, December 3) until 7pm to help local people wishing to catch up on their Christmas gift buying which, in many cases, was thwarted by lockdown.
Late night shopping will also operate on December 10 and 17 (both Thursdays).
Social distancing measures remain in force. So as many niche shops in Brigg are on the small side, in terms of floor space, customers need to comply with the signed restrictions indicating how many can be inside at the same time.
We think Wallhead's outfitters, established in the 1890s, must be Brigg town centre's most long-established retailer. The Wrawby Street shop will be be opening on Sundays in the run up to Christmas, in addition to its normal trading hours.

Wallhead's yesterday (Wednesday) when it resumed trading. There not as many shoppers out and about in the town centre as we expected. Today being market day, that situation should change. |
