WORK TO START ON NEW STAGE OF ANCHOLME VALLEY WAY LINKING BRIGG AND SOUTH FERRIBY

Being able to walk or cycle from Brigg to the end of the River Ancholme at South Ferriby, where it meets the mighty Humber, will become an important stage nearer completion as a result of new work to be carried out for North Lincolnshire Council that's about to begin.

Three thousand tonnes of stone is being delivered ready to start work on a further stretch of the Ancholme Valley Way – a multi-use path that is attracting thousands of visitors due to its attractive and tranquil location along the River Ancholme.
Work is due to start on the latest section this week and will run from Carr Lane, Bonby, to beyond Saxby All Saints Bridge. It should be completed and ready to use by around mid-October this year.
The hard-surfaced path currently runs from the attractive market town of Brigg, past the boats and fishing area, taking visitors along the River Ancholme into beautiful open countryside to Carr Lane, Bonby.
The majority of the route is already accessible; this latest section will open it up further from Carr Lane, Bonby northwards via Saxby All Saints Bridge to the Horkstow parish boundary. The intention is for the route to run all the way from Brigg to South Ferriby.
Cllr Rob Waltham, leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “We are opening access so more people can explore our wonderful countryside, which North Lincolnshire has an abundance of.
“The Ancholme Valley Way is popular because of its fantastic location along the River Ancholme and it passes through some great places along the way. You can walk, cycle or run the route, or if you are in the water, row!
“The bridges themselves are interesting with one dating back to 1836 – Horkstow Bridge – an example of an early suspension bridge, the only known example by Sir John Rennie and one of the earliest unaltered suspension bridges in the country.
“Together with all the wonderful wildlife, especially at this time of year, and the fantastic market town of Brigg and surrounding villages, it makes for a great day out for the whole family. It provides a great way to keep active and soak up the surroundings.”
